Client rebrand for WMU’s student-run newspaper, the Western Herald. Seeking to elevate their look to align with a more authoritative aesthetic in the world of journalism, this rebrand includes a new logo as well as a revised print template, which was my primary individual focus.
The Western Herald team gave us a few aspirational groups they’d like to emulate such as the Michigan Daily and The Guardian, but they still wanted their rebrand to feel like them — not copy-pasting the conventions of newspapers. For our research, my team & I studied succesful newspapers as well as Western Herald brands from previous decades.
